World Animal Protection is committed to protecting the privacy of our donors, volunteers, and supporters. This privacy policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information.

What is personal information?

Personal information includes your name, residential address, residential and mobile phone numbers, email address, donation history to World Animal Protection/WSPA, and credit card or banking information. Personal information is collected by World Animal Protection only when you specifically and knowingly choose to provide it to us, such as when making a donation, requesting information, or purchasing merchandise. We may also obtain personal information from third parties for one-time mailing purposes unless you choose to make a donation.

Publicly available information, such as a public directory listing of your name, address, telephone number and electronic address, is not considered personal information.

Collection and use of personal information

World Animal Protection collects and uses your personal information primarily for issuing a tax receipt, communicating information about our programs or events, and soliciting donations. We may also use your personal information to communicate about donations if we are unable to process or problems with your monthly donation account. We may use your personal information to communicate with you by telephone, mail, email, text or social media.

Donor list trading and third party suppliers:

If you have not requested otherwise, we may trade your name, address, and telephone number (but no other personal information) with other charities or not-for-profit organizations for direct mail appeals. You can opt out of this arrangement at any time by contacting us at info@worldanimalprotection.ca or 1 800 363 9772.

Information collected by World Animal Protection through surveys is used by World Animal Protection for marketing purposes and is not disclosed to third parties. The only information we may share with third parties is aggregated demographic information, which is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.

From time to time, World Animal Protection may ask individuals to sign protest cards or petitions. World Animal Protection does not record personal information from these sources. Protest cards or petitions are forwarded to the intended recipient as outlined on the protest card or petition.

Disclosure

To efficiently manage our operations, World Animal Protection may share your personal information with selected third parties who are acting on our behalf as co-agents, suppliers or service providers. These third party service providers are provided only with the necessary information and are subject to strict confidentiality terms.

We strive to ensure that your information is accurate, complete, and up-to-date. Please inform us of any changes to your personal information. 

Security

World Animal Protection is committed to protecting your privacy. We have implemented security measures such as locked cabinets, restricted access, passwords, and encryption to protect your personal information from loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, or modification. Our employees are trained to respect your privacy and use your personal information strictly in accordance with this policy and privacy laws.

Our donation pages use an industry standard secure payment service for credit card transactions that is Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant and encrypted with SSL.

You have the right to access, update, or correct your personal information. Cancellation policy

You can change or cancel your monthly donation at any time. Contact us at info@worldanimalprotection.ca or 1 800 363 9772. World Animal Protection requires 5 business days to effect changes before the next transaction date. Changes or cancellations received on or before the 24th of the month will be reflected in the credit card transactions which are debited on the 28th of that month and chequing account transactions which are debited on the 1st of the following month.

How we ensure your privacy is protected:  

  • AI would have been evaluated in a secure environment before approval for wider use for any new way of using AI.   
  • All personal data related activity would be risk assessed and necessary mitigations applied.   
  • World Animal Protection will ensure an appropriate lawful basis is applied before we use your personal data for any AI- generated content.   
  • Our use of AI-generated content will be truthful, accurate and adhere to advertising and fundraising regulations and relevant internal policies.
