Matching challenges are mutually beneficial to you and to suffering animals

Matching challenges can double the impact of your donation, which means even more help to stop the suffering of animals.

Since March of 2020, you have been keeping elephants safe and fed at our partner sanctuaries. Together, we have supported 11 elephant sanctuaries across Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal since the start of the pandemic.

You have stepped up to ensure that these sanctuaries have been able to get the resources they need to provide the care, food, and a suitable environment for their resident elephants. And matching donation challenges have been a big support of this lifesaving work!

Matching donation challenges happen whenever a Lead Match donor kindly offers to match donations from animal lovers like you up to a certain amount.

Lead Match donors not only give generously, but through a matching donation challenge they also encourage others to give what they can. These vital donations from a few donors, usually anonymous, allow for us to focus on areas of greatest need.

Over the last couple of years that need was to help our partner sanctuaries through the COVID-19 pandemic so they can continue to care for abused animals. From one year to the next the need changes, and lead match donors allow for us to support what is urgent and deliver greater impact with your additional support.

Who can be Lead Match donor?

Anyone can be featured as a lead match donor, whether it is an individual donor, a corporation, or a foundation. They pledge to donate a specific amount, which is then used to match all gifts from other donors during a specific time frame. These pledge amounts are often promised to match dollar for dollar to what other donors give. Meaning if you give $50, World Animal Protection receives a $100 donation. This happens until the match has been accomplished.

Why should you support matching campaigns?

These challenges are beneficial to you, as the donor, because they provide double the amount of financial support to animals you care for – at no additional expense to you! This means your generosity extends further to support animals in the greatest need.

If there's any time to give to the causes you love, it's when you have an opportunity to make your dollar go further during a matching campaign. When you consider your charitable giving plans, please consider donating to one of our matching gift campaigns and help protect animals twice as much. Even if you are a monthly donor, your funds are matched.

Give now and your gift will have 2x the impact for elephants!

Thanks to two anonymous donors, we have launched another matching gift challenge this June in support of our partner elephant sanctuaries to help them care for their elephants through 2022 and prepare for 2023.

As put by Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary (BLES) founder Katherine Connor:

The hardest part of caring for our elephants has been sourcing food and the funding to pay for that food. COVID-19, in combination with extreme environmental issues, has resulted in the forest completely drying up, destroying all-natural food sources.

Did you know that elephants need to eat 10% of their body weight in food every single day? Your support can help feed them properly.

Give $64 today and it will be matched to equal $128, which can buy bananas and banana leaves to feed two hungry elephants for two whole months!

Match your gift for elephants

Donations will be matched up to $50,000 until midnight June 30th, 2022, thanks to two anonymous lead match donors.

Peace and friendship at BLES

Wassana, Beautiful Lotus, and Pang Dow all lived separate lives of loneliness, abuse, and back-breaking labour in the entertainment industry and illegal logging. But when they were rescued by our partner BLES, these girls found each other. Now they eat, swim, rest, and play together and sanctuary staff have nicknamed them “the Gossip Girls”. It is here at BLES that they are finally able to live a life free from suffering.

Your gift today will have double the impact for elephants like the Gossip Girls so they can live a peaceful life at BLES.
