Top 3 reasons a year-end gift helps you and animals

As 2021 draws to a close, it’s been a rollercoaster of a year for many of us. What better way to goodbye to 2021 than making a year-end gift that does some good for suffering animals like bears, elephants, pigs and dolphins.

Here is why year-end giving is so great:

1. You can receive a break on your taxes

World Animal Protection Canada, a registered charity, issues tax receipts for gift of $20 or more. With tax season just around the corner, giving a gift to World Animal Protection Canada can enable you to claim your donation against your taxable income. So not only will you be doing some good for animals you may also have an advantage at tax time.

In Canada, all donations can offset the tax payable, however, not all donations are equal. In Ontario, as Jason Tse, our Finance Coordinator explains, for donations under $200, the federal and Ontario governments would grant you a tax credit for 15% and 5.05% of your donation, respectively. For donations over $200, the federal and Ontario governments would increase their tax credit percentage to 29% and 11.16%, which equals more than 40% of your donation!

If you have any questions about charitable giving, reach out to your tax advisor to see how giving to World Animal Protection Canada can benefit you at tax time.

Luckily you have until December 31 at 11:59 pm to make a charitable year-end, tax deductible gift to World Animal Protection. Don’t delay! Make your year-end gift now to receive your 2021 tax receipt.

2. You help thousands of animals in need and that feels good

This year has been particularly tough for animals around the world due to the ongoing pandemic. Animals at our partner bear and elephant sanctuaries have been hit hard due to the economic downturn and lack of visitors to their venues. They continue to need food and medicine to care for formerly abused animals like bears used for the blood-sport of baiting or elephants abused in the tourist industry for riding and performing.

Did you know that 66% of donations that World Animal Protection Canada receives comes from caring individuals like you who want to make the world a better place for animals? Multiple studies have proven that we feel great after we give. Not only does it make us happy in that moment knowing we have done something great, but it also makes us happier and healthier over time*. When we give to what we care about we often feel proud our face lights up and smile appears, interestingly science has found that our brain lights up as well.

3. You can double your impact for animals with a company matching program

Make your gift have twice the impact by having your company match your charitable contributions! Thousands of companies match donations made by their employees to organizations like ours if they are made within the year – say by December 31st. Company matching programs are a great way to extend your generosity and ensure your support goes even further to change the world for animals. Our partnership with Double the Donation makes it easy for you to search your or your spouse’s company matching gift eligibility – but also to apply so that the gifts you make this year can be matched.

Find out if your company matches gifts now.

You are making a difference

Whatever your reason is to give a year-end gift, know that every dollar you give to World Animal Protection Canada helps solve the root causes of animal suffering and moves governments, corporations and people to end animal cruelty.

It’s not too late to make a gift in 2021 to help animals! Give before 11:59 pm on December 31st for your 2021 tax receipt.
