Canada at COP28: An opportunity for climate action

Blog

The world is at a crossroads and with COP28 fast approaching, it's time to recognize and act on Canada's pivotal role in shaping our planet's future.

Why do Canada’s actions matter at COP28?

Canada ranks among the top 10 countries in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Our actions reverberate internationally, influencing the fight against climate change.

With abundant natural resources and a role in international climate agreements, Canada has the potential to lead by example, inspiring others to take ambitious climate action.

As we face climate impacts at home, our commitment to addressing this issue is not only a global responsibility, but also essential for safeguarding our fellow citizens and habitats. In the global fight against climate change, Canada's role is pivotal, demanding proactive measures and impactful contributions.

Canada's unique opportunity

In 2023, we've seen the climate crisis hit home like never before. Extreme weather events, wildfires, and rising temperatures have become our new normal. But amidst these challenges lies an opportunity for Canada — the opportunity to take a leadership role by showcasing sustainable approaches and addressing the fundamental drivers of climate change.

As we approach COP28, we are presented with a global stage upon which Canada can exert a profound influence. This international platform allows us to not only declare our commitment to a sustainable future, but also to recognize and address the intricate links between animal agriculture, habitat destruction, and climate change.

Let's talk solutions

So, what can we do? It starts with recognizing our responsibility:

🌱 Plant-powered future: We can champion plant-based diets through our national dietary guidelines, reducing our carbon footprint. Try our meatless meal planner to reduce your carbon emissions while making food choices that help improve the lives of animals.

💰 Redirecting subsidies: By shifting subsidies away from factory farming and towards sustainable, plant-based food production, we can revolutionize our food system.

🚫 No new factory farms: Let's introduce a ten-year moratorium on new factory farms, setting a global example for responsible farming.

🌏 Global leadership: Canada can lead the way by committing to halving global animal protein production and consumption by 2040, spearheading a sustainable future.
