Pressure mounts on Carnival Cruise Line as TripAdvisor ends ticket sales to cruel Cayman Turtle Centre

News

The world’s largest travel has ended ticket sales to Cayman Turtle Centre, where over 5,000 endangered sea turtles live in horrific conditions. Global cruise company Carnival must follow suit

TripAdvisor's action puts even more pressure on Carnival Cruise Line to stop sending tourists to Cayman Turtle Centre, and help protect turtles.

At the tourist attraction, sea turtles are kept in overcrowded, shallow tanks, and are fed on an unnatural diet. These unnatural conditions have resulted in abnormal behaviour in the turtles such as aggression and even cannibalism.

One hundred thousand are calling for change

In just under a month, more than 100,000 people across the world have signed our petition urging Carnival Cruise Line to stop sending tourists the venue. Carnival must listen to this public outrage.

Neil D’Cruze, our senior wildlife advisor said: "The public outcry about the ongoing animal cruelty at the Cayman Turtle Centre is growing every day. TripAdvisor has moved away from selling tickets to the centre; it’s time for Carnival to stop ignoring public opinion and turning a blind eye.

"TripAdvisor’s decision sends a clear message: animal suffering is not something tourists want on their holiday checklist. Momentum is growing and it is time for this farcical facility to transform into a true sea turtle rehabilitation centre."

Tourists visiting the centre are usually unaware of the abuse and suffering the turtles experience when they are being handled.

A high cost for cruelty

Cayman Turtle Centre’s business costs are extremely high and it is already reliant on Caymanian Government subsidies of around US$12 million per year.

These funds could be better used to help protect and conserve endangered green sea turtles.

Help put pressure on Carnival

We're urging animal lovers to sign and share our petition to help protect endangered sea turtles.
