As a scientist, Helen specializes in animal sentience; the capacity of animals to feel emotions and experiences such as pain and joy. She is deeply passionate about the emotional lives of animals - it is the reason they need protecting. Animals feel, so their experiences matter. 

Helen has been an animal lover her whole life and believes that all animals should be protected. The more we know about the emotions of animals, the more we can ensure that they live good lives.
